The Thieme E-Book Library provides students, researchers, and clinicians with access to an exciting online collection of lavishly illustrated, full-color textbooks from Thieme’s renowned Flexibook and Color Atlas series.

Verify that your username is correct and attempt to sign in again. Please note that your password is case-sensitive and your Caps Lock key should be disabled when you attempt to sign in. If you are still unable to sign in, please request to have your login information e-mailed to you.

Select “Forgot Password?” in the user login box located on the left side. Type in your username or your e-mail ID and click submit. You will receive an e-mail with your password.

There are two ways in which to search within the Thieme E-Book Library:

 

1)  Find the search bar located in the page header. This function is available at all times and can be used to search throughout the entire E-Book Library. Results can then easily be filtered by book or author. You can search using AND, OR and NOT in the search bar.
(NOTE: Phrase match means that search terms will be case-sensitive and that multiple search terms will be treated as having been submitted between "quotation marks").

2)  Find the search bar located in the page viewer to search within a chosen book and generate a result list on the left hand side of the page viewer. You can hide or reveal your search results by clicking the small triangle toggle on the right side of the search results.

Open a book by selecting “Read It.” Find the page you want to copy text from, and select the "Text Selection" symbol located next to the "Pen" symbol. Point to the first word of the selection you wish to copy and highlight the text.

Re-select the “Text Selection” symbol located in the header.

The number in the white box shows the book page number as it appears in the book (this is also what will come up in a search result).

The numbers between the brackets respectively display the page number starting from the cover (in other words, the way in which pages are counted in a PDF), and then the total number of pages.

In the latest version of the Thieme E-Book Library, you have access to many new features. In order to store your personalized information and settings properly, an individual account is required.

No. The TOC has a small triangle toggle located in the sidebar that separates the TOC area from the content itself. Clicking this toggle will either hide or display the TOC.

besides in the book itself, you can also find all your notes and bookmarks in 'My Folder". Those will be saved even after a new edition of a title has replaced an older one.

The new E-Book Library (this site) offers a flash-based viewer that creates a more user-friendly online reading experience.  Without logging it offers the same functionality as the classic E-Book Library site: read and search content, and print out the 1-or 2-page book content you are currently viewing.

You will also (as a regular institutional user) be able to download books to your own laptop (iOffline).

Additional features that require creating an account and logging in, are:

> create bookmarks (1 per page)
> add notes (multiple per page, which are movable)
> save and print individual chapters (via the Medialibrary)

Yes, it is possible for a user to bookmark in their browser, or link to, an individual book page in an E-Book Library title.

In order to do so, add the document page number (the second number in the page number section of the page viewer’s toolbar) to the book url.

So, if the book url is http://ebooks.thieme.com/reader/pocket-guide-to-ear, you will have created a stable page link by adding doumnet number '41' as follows:  http://ebooks.thieme.com/reader/pocket-guide-to-ear/41 .

Once you've opened and synchronized iOffline, after the new edition goes online, you will be able to download the new edition, and you will have no more access to the old one.

The iOffline reader is a small program that, after a one time installation onto your laptop, allows you to locally download  and store any licensed title from the Thieme E-Book Library, enabling offline access. The iOffline Reader is built on Adobe Air, which will also be installed during the initial installation process.

In order to start using iOffline, select the "Download iOffline"-button in the Read Offline box located top left of the E-Booklibrary opening screen, and follow the instructions

 

Once you have installed the iOffline content reader, a window containing “My bookshelf” will automatically open. You can then select the e-book you wish to download from the list of your licensed e-books.

your iOffline App by default resides in, and can be started from, the personal applications folder accessible through Finder. (Finder -> Applications -> iOffline)

A: If you were attempting to install the latest iOffline version:

iOffline requires Adobe AIR to run. Unfortunately, you might have  version 3.4  installed which has a bug that prevents iOffline from getting installed or updated.

While Adobe is fixing this bug, as a temporary workaround you can get iOffline to work by downgrading to Adobe AIR v3.3. This is an easy process:

Windows:

•     Go To > Control Panel > Programs and Feaures (in xp:  Add or Remove Programs)
•     Select "Adobe AIR" and uninstall the runtime.
•     The link http://helpx.adobe.com/air/kb/archived-air-sdk-version.html allows you to download and reinstall the previous (3.3) version of Adobe Air.

Mac:

•     http://helpx.adobe.com/air/kb/archived-air-sdk-version.html to uninstall the current version (Double-click the "Adobe AIR Uninstaller", which is located in the /Applications/Utilities folder)
•     reinstall the previous version of Adobe Air Runtime.

B. If you have installation or authentication problems with older versions of iOffline, you need to completely uninstall any previous iOffline installation first,  following below instructions carefully, before you can perform a clean re-install.

Windows xp:

Step 1: To remove iOffline, open the Control Panel --> Select "Add or Remove Programs" --> Remove iOffline from the list.

Step 2: Go to My Computer --> Tools --> Folder Options --> View. Make sure the radio button “Show hidden files and folders” is selected.

Step 3: Go to C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data and delete the folder "ioffline.81FA133F75F33E2D63625F7A6A37BDA4DE3C1E7E.1"

(Note: If you get an error message saying the program is in use, do the following first: Ctrl-Alt-Del --> Task Manager --> Processes Tab --> Sort by Image Name. Find "ioffline.exe" in the list and click “End Process.”)

Step 4: Go to C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Adobe\AIR\ELS. Delete the folder "ioffline.81FA133F75F33E2D63625F7A6A37BDA4DE3C1E7E.1"

(See Step 3 for additional instruction re: a potential error message.)

Step 5: Return to the site, click "Download iOffline," and follow the installation instructions.

Windows 7:

Step1: Click on the Start button. ( Windows flag bottom left) -> Control Panel . -> Programs link. -> "Programs and Features" link. -> "iOffline" from the list. -> click on "Uninstall" button.

Step 2: Click on the Start button. (Windows flag bottom left) .-> Control Panel ->  Appearance and Personalization link -> Show hidden files and folders option ->  Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files, folders, and drives -> Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide extensions for known file types, and from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) -> Apply button and then OK button.

Step 3: Go to C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\ and delete the folder "ioffline.81FA133F75F33E2D63625F7A6A37BDA4DE3C1E7E.1"

Step 4: Go to C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ELS. Delete the folder "ioffline.81FA133F75F33E2D63625F7A6A37BDA4DE3C1E7E.1

Step 5: Return to site, click "Download iOffline," and follow the installation instructions.

({user} in the path refers to the User name.)
AIR application should be version 1.5 and above.


Mac:
(tested on OS X 10.6.6)

Step 1: Finder -> {your username} -> Library -> Preferences -> ioffline folder (with unique numbers) : move to trash/delete

Step 2: Finder -> {your username} -> Library -> Application Support -> Adobe -> AIR -> ELS -> ioffline folder (with unique numbers): move to trash/delete

Step 3: Finder -> Applications  -> iOffline.app (trash/delete the .app file)

Step 4: Finder -> Documents -> "My Offline Books" folder (if present)-> delete/trash this folder.

Step 5: Restart your MAC

Step 6: Return to site, click "Download iOffline," and follow the installation instructions. Note: your iOffline App by default resides in, and can be started from, the personal applications folder accessible through Finder-> Applications.

NOTE: AIR application should be version 1.5 and above.

Open a book by selecting “Read It.” Find the page where you would like to add a note and either right click your mouse or select the pen symbol in header of the interface located next to the bookmark icon. You can then move the note icon anywhere in the text. Type your note. To finish, click “Save.”

Open the book you would like to read by selecting “Read It.” Find the page where you want to add a bookmark and select the bookmark page symbol located in the header of the interface beside the page selection field.

 

You may also add a comment to every bookmark by typing in the blank fields. To finish, click “Save.”

We do not recommend comparing user stats between the old and the new E-Book Library, because the definition of what constitutes a page view on the old system and the new system (2- or multiplepage pdfs as opposed to single page flash pages) is quite different.

Of course it speaks for itself that we will maintain Counter Compliancy.

MARC records for the Thieme E-Book Library are available for download by link, as was the case with the old E-Book Library. Meanwhile we are working on adding alternative ways to make MARC-records available.

Institutional Customers:

Institutions may obtain trial access to our electronic books. Access is authenticated by an IP address range. This IP range is set up by Thieme. Institutions may also access a sample chapter of each book.

 

Individual Customers:

Individuals are invited to suggest trial access to the Thieme E-Book Library to an institution or library within their reach. Individuals may also access a sample chapter of each book by clicking the cover of the desired book.
